How Long to See Results from Derma Roller for Hair?

However, your derma rolling results will depend on several factors, these include:

1) Usage of other treatments for hair loss (minoxidil, finasteride, PRP etc.)

2) Consistency of your derma-rolling routine – consistent and regular usage is a must!

3) Length of your derma roller (0.25 mm to 1.0 mm)

4) Severity of your hair loss – is it androgenic alopecia (genetic hair loss or not)

5) Diet and lifestyle

What do studies say about hair growth and derma rollers?

Gupta et al. summarized the scientific literature behind derma rollers and hair re-growth in a paper they wrote in 2022.

The key takeaway from their research was that there are very limited studies that only look at derma rolling in isolation. The majority of studies looked at derma rolling in combination with other hair loss therapies, such as minoxidil, finasteride and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy.

They do, however, state the preliminary results look “promising” but that further research was needed in isolation.

Whilst we can’t look at any studies that look at derma rolling for hair loss in isolation, the studies that are done, are very interesting.

A study by Dhurat et al. compared two groups of individuals over a 12 week period. One group were using minoxidil & the 2nd group took minoxidil combined with microneedling on their head. The group that used both microneedling (derma rolling) saw significantly greater hair growth results to the group using just minoxidil. To be precise, in scientific terms, this group had 91.4 vs 22.2 mean change in hair count at week 12 of the study.

However, the results will vary depending on the individual. Some people may see results sooner but don’t expect a miracle. The key to seeing good results is having a consistent micro-needling/derma rolling routine for your beard.

It is important to note that there are no studies specifically on the use of derma rollers to improve beard hair growth. The only thing we can base our information on is anecdotal data from people trying this themselves. We can also assume the results will be somewhat similar to studies done on derma rolling/micro needling on the head.
