Derma Roller/Microneedling For Hair Loss: Before And After Results

Over the past years, using derma rollers has proven to boost the results of hair growth treatments. According to a study published in 2013 in the International Journal of Trichology, Micro-needling has quadrupled the effect of hair growth treatments.

Micro-needling, or derma rolling, has succeeded in increasing hair growth, diminishing hair loss, and improving the scalp’s condition. All of which will lead you to a healthy, full head of hair.

In this article, we’ll show you the derma roller before and after results on hair.

How Long to See Results From Derma Roller for Hair?

According to The Trichological Society, hair grows between 0.5 and 1.7 centimeters each month. So typically, you should start to see clear visual results after at least three months.

In a randomized blinded study published in the International Journal of Trichology, researchers conducted an experiment for 12 weeks to calculate the results of different approaches to promote hair growth.

The researchers gathered 100 men who suffered from androgenetic alopecia — AGA for short. They wanted to evaluate how effective micro-needling is for genetic hair loss over that specific period.

The cases were divided into two groups. Group one was given 5% minoxidil lotion as a hair growth treatment twice a day, along with weekly micro-needling sessions. Group two only applied 5% minoxidil lotion twice a day without the aid of any tool.

To ensure equal hair length, all 100 cases had their hair shaved at the beginning of the experiment. Researchers also marked a fixed area on all cases’ scalps to examine over the next three months.

The researchers measured three main parameters over the three-month period of the experiment. These parameters were hair count increase, patient’s assessment of hair growth, and investigator’s assessment of hair growth.

Before and After Results of Micro-needling For Hair Loss

By the end of the experiment, the average hair count of group one, which used micro-needling every week along with their hair growth treatment, was over four times more than group two, which only used the hair growth treatment.

As for the investigator’s assessment, 80% of group one succeeded with flying colors in greatly increasing their hair count within the fixed area that the investigators examined. Meanwhile, no one in group two showed such excellent results.

And finally, the patient assessment showed that 41 patients out of 50 from group one reported a 50% improvement or more. That’s 82% of the group! On the other hand, only two patients from group two reported such satisfactory results.

In Conclusion

It’s safe to say that pairing weekly micro-needling sessions with your hair growth treatment will drastically improve your results. Within only 12 weeks, you should see a huge improvement in empty patches on your scalp.

Based on the previous study, microneedling for hair loss results in a great boost to hair growth. Derma rollers have proved to be a safe and promising tool to add to your hair growth routine and improve your scalp’s quality. Even in the case of a genetic disease like AGA.
